Ride the iconic Pacific Coast Highway
A must for bucket-list cyclists, the Pacific Coast Highway is a joy to ride. If you’re not blessed with the luxury of time, just take in the highlights through California’s sweeping surf coastline, where the sun-soaked sandy beaches beckon at the end of the day. This is the backdrop to the Tour of California, but you don’t have to be lycra-clad to enjoy these routes – we’ve included two routes on every day of all our tours, so you can choose how demanding your day’s ride is. A true Californian speciality, this trip wouldn’t be complete without a Santa Maria style barbecue in what is rightfully known as the “West’s Best BBQ Town”.
Conquer Smugglers Notch
Probably Vermont’s most famous climb, the twist and turns of Smugglers Notch will keep you on the edge of your saddle in anticipation of the views ahead. The scenery comes with a side helping of spectacular, with the Green Mountains and Mt. Mansfield competing with thundering waterfalls for your attention. The descent into mountain town of Stowe is your reward, with several days of scenic cycling in store for you for the rest of this cycling trip – all the better to burn off some calories, because this region is home to endless pretty towns producing superb beers from family-run microbreweries, rich local cheeses and mammoth quantities of sweet and nutty maple syrup.

Cycle the Hoodoos and Canyons of the Desert
For something truly unusual, a cycle tour of Utah delivers. These memorable landscapes of bewitching hoodoo rock formations, sweeping red desert, and graceful arches are rarely explored by bike – this is a truly adventurous and quirky way to discover the destination. It’s surprisingly easy to unlock the joys of the canyonlands from the saddle, and you’ll relish these landscapes so much more from a bike than you could separate from the action by a car window. See both Bryce and Zion Canyons on this route, which overlaps with some of the routes from the rugged Tour of Utah racing glory. Our version is less gruelling, with a relaxing massage treatment included.
