Seeing the world through the eyes of your children is a truly special experience, everything is new, exciting and fun for them. There are some pretty incredible and inspiring places in the States, some of which are even educational (just don’t tell the kids)! We’ve chosen our favourite places across the USA that your kids will find utterly fantastic and we bet you that you’ll have just as much fun as them.
1. Whitewater rafting down the Colorado River
If it’s pure adrenaline-filled adventure you’re after, then why not head to one of America's most exciting landscapes, the incredible Canyonlands National Park. Don your life jackets and raft a section of the Colorado River, through the legendary Cataract Canyon on our Canyon Family Discovery tour, with an included overnight rafting trip. With no experience necessary, this is an incredible activity to experience with the whole family.
2. Mission Beach, San Diego
Mission Beach epitomises the very essence of what life is like in San Diego and with a variety of different sun-soaked activities, you and your kids will enjoy every minute here. Whilst in the area make sure you visit San Diego’s only beachfront amusement centre, Belmont Park. Located on the surf and sand, why not take a ride on the famous Giant Dipper or try your hand at a spot of crazy golf and the best thing is it’s free admission, just pay as you play!
3. Universal Studios, Hollywood
One of the oldest and most famous of the Hollywood movie studios is still in use and is now a theme park, so is a place not to be missed. Visitors can take tours on multi-car trams that let you really get up close and personal to the sets and props used in Hollywood movies. Brave the world’s scariest indoor rollercoaster, ‘Revenge of the Mummy’ or join Shrek and Donkey on an ‘ogre-the-top’ adventure (Unfortunately, I can’t claim credit for that one)!
4. Spotting whales in Kenai Fjords, Alaska
This place offers the perfect and unique opportunity to introduce your children to the wonders of seeing wildlife in its natural habitat. Join us on our Alaskan Family Discovery tour and enjoy an included scenic ferry ride through the Fjords taking in the beautiful scenery and trying to spot the Humpback and orca whales that make this place their home.
5. Become a real cowboy at an authentic Mountain Ranch, Utah
I think at some point in all of our lives, we have dreamt about being a cowboy or cowgirl and now that dream can become a reality. Our Cowboys & Indians Family Discovery tour makes a very authentic stop at a Mountain Ranch in Utah. Saddle up and take in the epic scenery on horseback, tuck into a hearty western dinner and then finish your day off sat around a roaring campfire, any cowboy or cowgirl would be proud of!
6. Santa Monica Pier, California
The Santa Monica Pier is what dreams are made of whether you take a ride on the iconic Ferris wheel, check out the end of the infamous Route 66 or simply relax with a spot of fishing. The choices are endless and your kids won’t know where to begin there is so much fun to be had here.
7. Walk amongst the Giant Sequoias, Yosemite National Park
Your children will be in awe as they walk underneath the canopy of these incredible ancient trees. Encourage your children to appreciate the beauty of nature with the Junior Ranger program. Becoming a Junior Ranger involves completing an activity book, attending a Junior Ranger walk and helping to keep the park clean, by collecting a bag of rubbish. Once all the tasks have been completed, your child will become a fully-fledged ranger, with an official Junior Ranger badge to show off to all their friends back home!
8. Kayak on Lake Powell, Utah
Lake Powell is the perfect place for children and adults alike, with its pristine clear blue waters it is just begging for you to dive right in, whether that’s just for a quick dip followed by a sunbathe or whether you rent a stand-up paddle board and try out your balancing skills, this is a great place to relax and have fun after you’ve spent a few days exploring the surrounding national parks.
9. Watch a dog sledding demonstration, Alaska
Denali National Park is six million acres of complete wilderness. You and your children will be able to experience grizzly bears, caribou, wolves and other native wildlife surrounded by the tallest peak in North America, Mount McKinley. When not exploring this vast and diverse national park, why not come and say hello to the sled dogs of Denali as the rangers and dogs demonstrate a traditional Alaskan mode of travel.
